Being In Balance Holistic Healing For The Body, Mind, Emotions & Spirit
When approaching healing it is important to incorporate all aspects of the self. You can dedicate your energy to your physical body, but if you have emotional blockages they may wind up being a deterrent in your long term staying power. Similarly, you may meditate to find mental and emotional stillness, but if you don't feed your body with the adequate fuel, and keep it moving through exercise, eventually it will break down physically. My suggestion is to have a well rounded approach to health and incorporate as many different practices as possible. Some of my favorites:
Foods are the building blocks of our bodies, and we "get back what we put in". It seems to me that we have lost our connection between what we put in our mouths and how it affects our bodies. Today we are a nation of doing what we want and taking a pill when our choices create undesirable symptoms. The body communicates with us through pain and discomfort. When we medicate ourselves with drugs, we are only quieting the symptoms of the issue, which will continue to develop and find new ways to express itself. The body is perfectly capable of healing itself...if we give it the proper nutrients. Processed foods take more energy to assimilate then they provide back, leaving us with a nation of malnourished & simultaneously obese people. In 2009 healthcare spending was 5 times more than oil and 20 times more than the war in Iraq! These numbers floored me. I believe it is time to take responsibility of our own health. This begins with eating live foods made by nature, not in a factory.

Your nervous system operates perfectly allowing communication to happen throughout the body. All body systems are working in harmony and balance with one another. Your daily energy is vibrant and continuous. Your mental & emotional states are peaceful and dynamic. Joy and knowing lives in your heart.
How would it feel if this was your reality? This is a state of being that is available to every person. If you can imagine and feel the energy of this state on a continuous basis then you can attain it. Meditation and visualization are life changing practices to incorporate into your lifestyle. There are so many resources available today to teach and assist us in mediation. Recently, I did a search on the apple app store with the word meditation. Tons of free apps came up. I ended up downloading 16 apps and have been trying two or three a day. I am no stranger to meditation, but the insight, inspiration and practices that these apps offer is so invaluable, I highly recommend it for beginners and veterans.

Being active is so crucial to our physical, mental & emotional health. Regardless of what kind of exercise you choose, do your best to stay active and have fun while doing it. I believe yoga is one of the best forms of exercise because it involves stretching and strengthening the muscles at the same time. Just a few of the many benefits of yoga include:

Massage therapy helps to relax the nervous system, improve circulation, promote detoxification and improve overall well being. Massage reduces levels of the stress hormone cortisol, resulting in lifted spirits and often lower blood pressure. It can also boost the neurotransmitters serotonin and dopamine, which are involved in depression. Mental & emotional health are so important, and often overlooked. "A sad soul can kill you quicker than a germ" ~John Steinbeck Find ways to be inspired, and things to be grateful for. Try starting a gratitude journal, or expressing gratitude to at least one person a day. Be around people or places that inspire you to create, rejoice, be merry & feel grateful.

Being in Nature
Few things can be more revitalizing than being in nature. The quiet sounds of the wind blowing through leaves, the breathtaking views, the feeling of peace you get. There's nothing like a dose of beautiful mother nature to help you find your balance and reconnect to your essence. Even if you only have time for a 5 min walk around the neighborhood, get outside and enjoy!
